Product Questions

All single file downloads are compressed into a .zip archive format. Your OS should have native support to extract this format.

Our larger downloads also come as multi-part split archives in .rar format.  You will need a proper extractor for this. Free software is available, for example: (Windows) 7-Zip – http://www.7-zip.org/ (Mac OS 10) The Unarchiver – http://unarchiver.c3.cx/unarchiver.

If opening .rar files you only need to extract .part1.rar.  All the others will open automatically.

There are lots of different ways to do this. We have outlined a number of ways to get it done here.

Film Wash Color Effects

Over the entire Film Wash collection, we have Presets and Powergrades for DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects and Apple Color. Check out each volume for the applications supported.

Copy the Film Wash folder to the Presets folder in your After Effects installation. For example: Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe After Effects CSX/Presets or C:/Program Files/Adobe/After Effects CSX/Support Files/Presets. Open or restart your After Effects application.

In Resolve, goto the Gallery or Stills page. Right-click and choose Import. Navigate to the Powergrades folder from your main Film Wash folder. Once you have imported them here, they will be copied into your database.

Copy the Film Wash folder to:  /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Color.  Are you on OS 10.7 or above? You have to unhide the Library folder.  Click here to find out how.

If you have a good idea for another application, then send us a mail: sales@curiousturtle.com. If we get enough demand we will get something working.

Film Wash Film Grain

The Film Grain collections are not plug-ins but footage.  You can use them in any non-linear editing or compositing system that supports Blend or Composite modes, for example Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer. Additionally you can use them in color grading applications like DaVinci Resolve or Assimilate Scratch to add the finishing touch whilst color grading.

This depends on how you are going to use them.  If you normally work in HD, there is still an advantage in using the higher resolutions. You can easily move the footage around or use larger scales without losing quality. It’s like having multiple versions from one clip.

There is often rendering time that comes from this. We use clips compressed in Apple ProRes 422 (LT) to give you the best quality vs. system requirements ratio.

Have you installed the Apple Quicktime ProRes decoder for windows? Get it here.
